About us

History

Svenska Saxbolaget AB is a family business specialising in precision mechanics that was founded by Folke Jonsson in 1944. Folke was factory manager at C.V. Heljestrand (started in 1808) in Eskilstuna, which was known for its manufacturing of razors and surgical instruments. During the final phases of World War II, the demand for razors and surgical instruments was enormous, so Folke decided to start a company of his own. In 1961 Torshällastad required that all industries move out of the city centre, at which time designs for a new factory were begun.

In Årjäng there were enterprising individuals who monitored building permits all around Sweden. They got in touch with Folke and invited him to bring along his family for a weekend to see what Årjäng had to offer. Since our output consists of highly refined products for which access to rail or sea transportation is not necessary, there was nothing to prevent the company from locating in Årjäng. Folke was a true outdoorsman, so a pivotal factor in the decision by Folke and his family to build its new factory in Årjäng was the area’s forests and lakes. The factory was ready for occupancy in June 1962, and the vanload of furniture set off. Today the family’s fourth generation works for the company.

In 1980 Svenska Saxbolaget AB purchased C.V Heljestrand, but it took until 1993 for the company to begin anew. In 1995 the group was reorganised with C.V. Heljestrand AB as the parent company and Svenska Saxbolaget AB as a subsidiary.

When we became certified according to quality management standard ISO in 1996, it turned out that we were one of the first small businesses that had committed to a third party certified quality system.
